The blind Bulgarian mystic Baba Vanga may have died nearly 30 years ago, but her eerie predictions continue to stun the world - and 2025 is shaping up to be one of her most prophetic years yet.
Known as the 'Nostradamus of the Balkans', Baba Vanga is now being credited by some with foreseeing the global economic turmoil that's currently unfolding - a crisis already being felt across Ireland and Europe.
Before her death in 1996 at the age of 84, Vanga predicted a "worldwide economic disaster" in the year 2025, that would be "the beginning of humanity's downfall". That prophecy has resurfaced in the wake of US President Donald Trump's dramatic move to impose sweeping tariffs on international goods - a decision that has rocked global trade markets and triggered fears of a recession.
For Ireland, like many nations connected to global supply chains, the knock-on effects of such market instability could be significant, especially in key sectors like tech, pharmaceuticals and agriculture.
Taking to Truth Social, President Trump doubled down on the controversial move, saying: "NOBODY is getting 'off the hook' for the unfair Trade Balances, and Non-Monetary Tariff Barriers, that other countries have used against us, especially not China, which, by far, treats us the worst!"
The tariffs, which came into effect on April 9, range from 10% to a staggering 145% depending on the country and product - a move that made the stock market extremely volatile. The New York Post reported that Baba Vanga saw an economic crisis in the pipeline for 2025, and as Trump continues to tax countries, it appears that remarkably, she was once again correct.
But that wasn’t her only prophecy for the year, Mirror UK reports. Just months into 2025, a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Thailand and Myanmar, killing around 2,000 people. Natural disasters of this scale were also among Baba Vanga's forecasts for this year, with many believers pointing to these events as further proof of her uncanny accuracy.
Born Vangeliya Pandeva Gushterova in 1911, Baba Vanga lost her sight during a violent storm in her youth and claimed that it was then she received her gift of prophecy. She rose to fame as a clairvoyant whose predictions were sought out by politicians, leaders and even intelligence agencies.
Over the decades, she is said to have predicted major world events including:
The 9/11 attacks
The death of Princess Diana
The rise of ISIS
Brexit
The Covid pandemic
Global warming and mass flooding
While her predictions have always sparked debate, some experts claim her accuracy rate is as high as 85%.
Her followers believe she had visions spanning centuries ahead, with predictions documented well beyond the year 3000. Among them are warnings about humanity merging with AI, and even contact with aliens.
Some of her remaining prophecies for this year include more climate catastrophes, rising unrest in Europe, and a major shift in the global balance of power.
